Box Score Cleveland, Ohio - The Trinity football
team lost a tough 21-17 road game at Case Western Reserve on
Saturday afternoon.
Trinity dropped to 4-4 on the season, and Case Western improved
to 3-3. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
A wild play with six minutes left in the fourth quarter gave the
Spartans the lead on what would be the final points of the game.
Case got the ball to the one yard line, then Trinity's
Garrett Jennings forced a fumble that was recovered by Case
Western's Kenny Riordan for the go-ahead touchdown.
Case Western also opened the scoring in the first quarter with a
short touchdown pass. The Tigers answered to even the game at
7-7 in the opening minutes of the second, as Matthew Kennemer
snagged a 23-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Smith.
As time ticked off for halftime, Tiger kicker Kevin Wise booted
a 24-yard field goal to put Trinity on top 10-7 at the break.
The Spartans regained the lead with a 35-yard score in the third
quarter, but the Tigers countered as Kennemer tossed a 19-yarder to
Sam Harford to put Trinity up 17-14.
Following the eventual winning score, Smith led the Tigers into
Spartans territory to try and get back in front, but he was
intercepted at the 25 yard line to end the threat.
Smith completed 23-38 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown.
Kennemer made five receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown,
as well as throwing a TD pass of his own.
Defensively, the Tigers Camden Joubert led the game with 15
tackles (eight solo), as well as recording a QB sack and two
tackles for a loss. Connor Yorloff accounted for 10 tackles (two
solo) and a quarterback hurry. Tomy Boboy made nine tackles (two
solo), 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for a loss, and one pass breakup.
The Tigers recorded 325 yards passing and 77 rushing, for 402
yards of total offense. Case Western had 143 yards in the air, and
113 on the ground for 256 total yards.
Trinity has off next week, and returns to action for a Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference game against Southwestern on
Saturday, November 9. It will be Trinity's regular season
home finale.
