Tiger Football Falls on the Road Against Case Western Reserve

Box Score

Cleveland, Ohio - The Trinity football team lost a tough 21-17 road game at Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity dropped to 4-4 on the season, and Case Western improved to 3-3. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

A wild play with six minutes left in the fourth quarter gave the Spartans the lead on what would be the final points of the game. Case got the ball to the one yard line, then Trinity's Garrett Jennings forced a fumble that was recovered by Case Western's Kenny Riordan for the go-ahead touchdown.

Case Western also opened the scoring in the first quarter with a short touchdown pass.  The Tigers answered to even the game at 7-7  in the opening minutes of the second, as Matthew Kennemer snagged a 23-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Smith.

As time ticked off for halftime, Tiger kicker Kevin Wise booted a 24-yard field goal to put Trinity on top 10-7 at the break.

The Spartans regained the lead with a 35-yard score in the third quarter, but the Tigers countered as Kennemer tossed a 19-yarder to Sam Harford to put Trinity up 17-14.

Following the eventual winning score, Smith led the Tigers into Spartans territory to try and get back in front, but he was intercepted at the 25 yard line to end the threat.

Smith completed 23-38 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown.  Kennemer made five receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown, as well as throwing a TD pass of his own.

Defensively, the Tigers Camden Joubert led the game with 15 tackles (eight solo), as well as recording a QB sack and two tackles for a loss. Connor Yorloff accounted for 10 tackles (two solo) and a quarterback hurry. Tomy Boboy made nine tackles (two solo), 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for a loss, and one pass breakup.

The Tigers recorded 325 yards passing and 77 rushing, for 402 yards of total offense. Case Western had 143 yards in the air, and 113 on the ground for 256 total yards.

Trinity has off next week, and returns to action for a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game against Southwestern on Saturday, November 9.  It will be Trinity's regular season home finale.
