Irving, Texas – The fourth-ranked Trinity Tigers women's soccer team recorded its seventh shutout in the last eight games with a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday over the University of Dallas Crusaders.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained unbeaten with a 10-0-1 overall record, and a 5-0-0 SCAC mark. Dallas fell to 5-6-0 and 3-2-0 SCAC. The two teams will play again Friday, Oct. 11, as Trinity hosts the Crusaders at 5 p.m.
Emily Jorgens lit up the board first, with an unassisted goal in the 34
th minute of play. Jorgens recorded her team-leading 12
th goal of the season, and the third game-winner.
Shelby Hopkins made it 2-0 with a solo scoring play four minutes later.
Shelby Guenthardt added a third goal, in the 73
rd minute, with assists from
Tara Sparks and
Michelle Lanier.
Guenthardt now has amassed 43 goals in her career, along with eight this season. Earlier, Guenthardt became the fifth Tiger player to score 40 or more career goals.
Trinity posted 35 total shots, with 19 on goal. The Tigers stingy defense allowed only four Dallas shots, with none on goal.
The Tigers return home Tuesday, Oct. 8, to host Southwestern in an SCAC game at 7 p.m.
