Box Score Sherman, Texas - The Tiger football team
ended its season on a sour note, as Austin College handed Trinity a
35-7 defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity fell to 5-5 on the season, after posting just 243 total
yards of offense - including a paltry 22 yards on 30 rushing
attempts. Austin fininshed wtih 449 yards offensively, and
forced a pair of turnovers in the win.
After a scoreless first quarter, Austin College got on the board
with a 65-yard pass play early in the second to take the lead.
The Tigers were finally able to answer just before the half
with an 80-yard drive that finished with a nine-yard touchdown run
that tied the game 7-7 at halftime.
Trinity fumbled on the opening drive of the second half, and
Austin turned that into a short scoring drive that gave the 'Roos
the lead for good. It was the first of three straight scoring
drives for Austin College, which put them up 28-7 early in the
fourth quarter.
Cody Sandman caught seven passes for 68 yards to lead Trinity,
while Weslyn Wagner caught three for 58 yards receiving.
Stephen Smith completed just 13-21 for 151 yards, while
Garrett Swan was 6-17 for 70 yards through the air. Both
quarterbacks were sacked three times each in the game.
Camden Joubert led Trinity's defense with 11 tackles, while
Garrett Jennings finished with nine stops for the Tigers.
James Hix accounted for Trinity's lone sack of the game.
For Austin College, Cooper Woodyard had just four catches, but
he took two of those for long touchdowns, and he finished with 154
yards receiving.
