Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger men's basketball
team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend
sweep with an 85-76 victory over Centenary College on Sunday
afternoon.
Trinity shot a blistering 54.2% from the field for the game,
remaining in first place in the SCAC standings with a 9-2 record
(15-6 overall). The Centenary Gents also shot well on Sunday,
connecting on 48% of their shots, but it wasn't enough to overcome
Trinity's hot shooting.
After scoring the first six points of the game, Trinity then
allowed Centenary to rattle off seven straight to take a short
lead. Later in the half, Trinity broke a 10-10 tie with seven
unanswered points, and never trailed again the rest of the way.
The Tigers led 40-33 at the break.
Trinity opened the second half on a 22-11 run to push that lead
to a game-high 18 points. Centenary rallied to within 10
points with 5:44 remaining, but couldn't get any closer until the
final score.
Zach Lambert led Trinity with 20 points on 6-10 shooting,
hitting 2-3 from three-point range, and 6-6 from the foul line.
He also dished out four assists and pulled down six
rebounds.
Joe Shotland dropped 15 points on 5-8 shooting from beyond the
arc, while Robert Kitzinger came off the bench with 17 points.
Jonathan Wilt finished with seven points and seven boards,
while Craig Saltarelli had eight points and a team-best six
assists. William Young also dished out five assists to go
with three points and two rebounds.
Jonathan Blount scored a game-high 23 points to lead Centenary,
hitting 8-13 from the field and 5-7 from three-point range.
Trinity resumes SCAC play with a pair of games against
Southwestern University this week. The Tigers host the
Pirates on Wednesday night, then the teams hook up for the final
time in the regular season in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday
evening.
