Box Score Abilene, Texas – Trinity men's soccer's Brazilian connection provided the goals and assist as the 16th-ranked Tigers beat the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys 2-1 Friday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Trinity improved to 2-1-0 after the victory, while Hardin-Simmons remained winless at 0-2-0.
The Cowboys scored first, in the 32nd minute, on a goal by Rowan Mayer. But first-year Tiger playerGoncalo Santana evened the match-up with a goal in the 44th minute, with an assist from juniorVictor Araujo.
Senior Yuri Ribeiro fired in the game-winning score, with a solo shot in the 65th minute, for his second goal of the young campaign. Ribeiro was the shooting leader, as he recorded five of the team's 10 total shots, and three of the five on goal. All three Tiger players hail from Salvador, Brazil.
The Cowboys only shot on goal was the scoring play by Mayer, included in their six total shots.
Trinity wraps up its trip to Abilene on Saturday by taking on Texas-Dallas at 3 p.m. The Tigers return home next Tuesday to begin defense of their SCAC Championship, for a 7:30 p.m. game with Southwestern.
