Box Score Sandestin, Florida - The Trinity
women's golf team is tied for seventh place with Illinois
Wesleyan University and Methodist University after shooting a
cumulative 324 Sunday in the opening round of the Golfweek DIII
Fall Preview.
The three-round tournament features some of the top
teams in the nation, competing at the Baytowne Golf Club.
Trinity leads Centre College (325), Berry
College (326), Schreiner University (328), Southwestern University
(329), Whittier College and Rhodes College “B” team
(332), Oglethorpe University (344), and Birmingham-Southern College
(366) in the 18-team field. Three of the Sewanee: University of the
South players are competing as individuals.
Washington University-St. Louis (296) leads the
tournament, and the University of Texas-Tyler (304) is in second
place. Carthage College (305) stands at No. 3, Washington and Lee
University (308) is fourth, Huntingdon College (314) is fifth, and
defending national champion Rhodes College (320) is in sixth
place.
Brigette Lee shot a 5-over-par 77 and is tied
for 15th place in the individual tournament , while Taylor Moser
went 7-over 79 and is in a tie for the No. 27 position. Hanna Niner
(83) is tied for 49th place, Shelby DeVore (85) is in a tie for the
No. 58 slot, and Alessa Hutter (86) stands in a tie for
65th.
Round 2 will be played Monday, while the event
concludes Tuesday. The Tigers finished in sixth place at last
year's tournament.
