men's soccer team finished its regular season Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign with a 4-0 shutout victory
over Southwestern University on Friday night.
Trinity notched its 15th consecutive victory, finishing off SCAC
play with a 14-0-0 record. The Tigers are also 18-1-0
overall, earning the top seed in the SCAC Tournament after
clinching the conference's regular season title.
Simon Uribe scored the only goal in the first half on
Friday, drilling a solo shot in the 20th minute for his first goal
of the season. Zach Treu gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 54th
minute, and Johnny Lawson widened the lead in the 80th minute of
play. Lawson leads the team with 15 goals. Tom Carwile and Victor
Araujo combined for the final scoring play, in the 88th minute of
action.
Matt Cardone had goalkeeper duties for the full
90 minutes, and recorded four saves at the net. Trinity posted its
third straight shutout victory, and the 11th of the
season.
Southwestern dropped to 7-10-1 and 7-6-1 SCAC.
The Tigers beat the Pirates 7-1 on September 10 at Georgetown,
Texas.
The SCAC Tournament will be held November 7-9 at Texas
Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas. As the top seed, Trinity
receives a first-round bye and will play in the semifinals at 11:00
a.m. on November 8. The winner advances to the championship game
November 9 at 1:00 p.m.
But first, the Tigers will take on the University of
California-Santa Cruz in a non-conference game to conclude their
regular-season home schedule at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night.
