Box Score Seguin, Texas - Trinity's football team opened
up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 34-27 defeat
at Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers led 7-3 early in the game, but the Bulldogs scored
two second-quarter touchdowns to take a 17-7 advantage into
halftime. Trinity opened the scoring on a reverse pass early
in the third quarter to cut the lead to just three points, but
Texas Lutheran answered with consecutive scores to pull back in
front 31-14.
Trinity continued to fight until the end, though, scoring twice
in the fourth quarter, but Texas Lutheran was able to stop the
rally short in the end. After the Tigers scored with 2:53
remaining to make it 34-27, Texas Lutheran recovered the ensuing
onside kick to seal the game.
Matthew Kennemer threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to quarterback
Mason Blaschke, totaling 77 yards on two pass plays. He also
completed a pass on a fake punt in the first quarter, leading to
Trinity's opening touchdown.
Blaschke finished with 109 yards rushing to lead the Tigers,
adding another score on the ground. He struggled in the
passing game, though, completing just 7-22 for 77 yards and two
interceptions. He also hit Jayden Holden for an 18-yard
touchdown in the fourth quarter, accounting for three total scores
on the day.
Travis Williams also had a nice day in his return to the
starting lineup, picking up 78 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
Chaz Davis caught three passes for 41 yards.
Connor Yorloff led Trinity with 12 tackles and the team's only
sack - a five-yard loss. Brad Hood and Julian Turner added
nine stops each, while Camden Joubert finished with eight.
Joshua Cook picked off a pass for the only turnover of the
game for Texas Lutheran.
Trinity committed three turnovers on the day, giving up a fumble
in addition to the two interceptions. The Tigers finished
with 358 yards offensively, but allowed nearly 500 to the Bulldogs
offense.
The Tigers fall to 2-6 on the season, falling to the Bulldogs
for the second consecutive year. Trinity falls to 16-11 in
the series, though Texas Lutheran has won three of the last five
meetings. Texas Lutheran improves to 7-1 on the season.
Trinity will be back in action next weekend, facing off against
Southwestern University in another conference matchup. The
Tigers defeated the Pirates 22-19 in a non-conference tilt on
October 18 in San Antonio.
