San Antonio - Trinity seniors Kelsey Falcone
and Shelby Hopkins led a group of eight Tiger players elected to
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer
All-Tournament Team.
Falcone was named Offensive Most Valuable Player
for the second consecutive year. Hopkins took home Defensive MVP
honors.
The third-ranked Tigers (20-0-1) captured their
sixth consecutive SCAC Championship with shutout victories at home
last weekend over Austin College (7-0) and Texas Lutheran
University (3-0). Coach Lance Key guided the team to its ninth
conference title in his 11 seasons at the Tigers helm.
Falcone scored the eventual game-winner in both
of the Tiger tournament victories - including Sunday's title
matchup with Texas Lutheran. She finished the semifianl with two
goals against Austin, giving her a tournament-best three goals over
the weekend. Falcone was named to the All-Tournament Team for
the third straight time.
Hopkins, also a three-time All-Tournament
selection, assisted Falcone's game-winner in the championship
tilt. She paced a taut Tiger defense which did not yield a shot in
the two tournament games played by top-seeded Trinity.
Emily Jorgens was named to the All-Tournament
Team for the third time. Kirby Peddicord was also a repeat
selection, having made the All-Tournament Team in 2012.
Also selected for this year's All-Tournament Team were
Hannah Kuhl, Devan Osegueda, Maggie Olvera, and Kimberly
Polasek.
Trinity also secured the conference automatic
bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. The Tigers will host the
first and second rounds Saturday and Sunday. Trinity meets
the University of Texas-Tyler, which received votes in the National
Soccer Coaches Association Poll, at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The winner
plays in the second round at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, against the
winner of No. 18 Hardin-Simmons University and the University of
Redlands. Those teams play at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, at
Trinity's field.
