Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger men's
basketball team earned a berth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championship game with a 64-48 win over Colorado College
in Saturday's SCAC Tournament Semifinal.
Midway through the opening period, Trinity trailed Colorado
12-16, but the hometown Tigers closed out the half with a 23-4 run
that put the team in control of the game.
Colorado scored five quick points to start the second half,
cutting the lead to 10 (35-25), but an early timeout by Trinity was
followed by six unanswered points to push the lead to 16 points.
After that spurt, Colorado never got closer than 13 points in
the game, as Trinity was able to hold on for the win.
Trinity will be shooting for its third consecutive SCAC
Championship, and will face off against Centenary College in
tomorrow's title game. The two teams split their regular
season meetings, as each team won at home.
Zach Lambert led the Trinity Tigers with 19 points for the
second straight game, hitting 5-7 from the field and 4-4 from
three-point range. Robert Kitzinger added 12 points and a
team-best eight rebounds, while Matt Selling also contributed 11
points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots. William Young
dished out a game-high eight assists.
Ryan Milne scored 17 points to lead Colorado College, but hit
just 6-21 from the floor. As a team, Colorado was held to
just 28.6% (16-56) shooting. Chris Lesnansky chipped in with
10 points and seven boards.
Trinity and Centenary open up the SCAC Championship Sunday at
noon tomorrow, followed by the women's basketball conference title
game. Because Centenary is still in transition to Division
III, the Gents are not eligible for the NCAA Playoffs; therefore,
Trinity has already clinched the SCAC's automatic bid to the
postseason - the third straight appearance for the Tigers.
