Box Score Jekyll Island, Georgia - The 10th-ranked
Tiger women's golf team shot a final-round 320 Sunday to
finish seventh among 20 teams at the Jekyll Island Women's
Collegiate Invitational.
Trinity posted a three-round total of 973 at the
par-72 Indian Mound Course event which featured some of the best
NCAA Division III teams in the nation. The Tigers had been in
eighth place for the first two rounds of the tournament.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (943) won the
team competition, the NCAA runner-up University of Texas-Tyler team
(946) placed second, and Rhodes College (951) was third. National
champion University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (955) came in at No. 4,
Methodist University (958) was fifth, and Southwestern University
(970) placed sixth.
The Tigers finished ahead of 13 teams, including
eighth-place Olivet College (977), No. 9 Oglethorpe University
(995), and 10th-place Illinois Wesleyan University
(1,006).
Hanna Niner wrapped up the individual
tournament, consisting of some 120 golfers, with a 5-over-par 77
for a sixth-place finish. Niner's scorecard read 232 at the
end of the competition. Brigette Lee shot 82 for a 243 total and
tied for 23rd place. Christine Campbell made an 84 (249 total) and
was in a tie for the No. 40 position, while Alessa Hutter also shot
84 (256 total) for a tie for 61st place. Madeline Moran tied for
the No. 67 slot after shooting 77 (259 total), an improvement of 18
strokes from Friday's opening round.
Laura Lindsey of Texas-Tyler won medalist honors
with a 76 (223 total), and McKenzie Ralston of Mary Hardin-Baylor
was runner-up at 72 (229 total).
Trinity will compete in the West Region Invitational April
7-8 at Georgetown, Texas.
