Box Score Georgetown, Texas - The fourth-ranked
Trinity men's soccer team opened Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference play with a 7-1 road win at Southwestern University on
Wednesday night.
The Tigers improved to 4-1 on the year, bouncing back from this
past weekend's upset loss to the University of Texas-Dallas.
Trinity and Southwestern last met in the SCAC Championship game
this past November in Georgetown, which was a 1-0 win for the
Tigers.
Johnny Lawson netted his first goal of the season in the ninth
minute, but it was Zacharias Edholm that really turned the tide for
Trinity. Edholm scored two goals in just less than seven
minutes time to put the Tigers up 3-0. Lawson assisted on the
first, which was the eventual game-winner.
Trinity led 4-0 at halftime, then added three more goals in the
final 45 minutes of action. Callum Squires scored two of the
three goals - one in the 55th minute, and one in the 70th minute to
cap the game's scoring.
Nate Dauphin also added a goal for the Tigers in the second
half, while Steven Gaunt finished off the first-half scoring with a
rebound goal in the 38th minute. Goncalo Santana and Derrick
Horvath also picked up points for Trinity, adding assists on the
first and last goals.
Matt Cardone recorded three saves in the first half of the game,
giving way to fellow goalkeepers Chad Margotta and Todd Whittaker
in the second half.
The Tigers and Pirates will meet again October 31 in San
Antonio. Next up for Trinity is a Friday game with sixth-ranked
Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m.
