San Antonio -
Trinity senior All-American Emily Jorgens has been selected as the
first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's
Offensive Soccer Player of the Week this season.
The prolific Jorgens sparked the Tigers, now
ranked No. 1 in the nation, to a 7-1 season-opening home victory
last Friday over the College of St. Scholastica. Jorgens fired in
two goals, and dished out two assists, playing a part in each Tiger
scoring play in the first half.
Jorgens earned a number of high awards following the
Tigers 2013 season: Capital One Academic All-American of the Year,
NCAA Elite 89 Award (highest grade point average at the NCAA
Division III Tournament), and National Soccer Coaches Association
of America All-America First Team recipient. It marked the third
time Jorgens received All-America accolades. Jorgens was also named
SCAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive
time.
Trinity advanced to the NCAA Championship final
last year, played at San Antonio's Toyota Field. Jorgens tied
a Division III single-season record during the tournament, by
recording her 30th assist.
The Tigers hit the road to Georgia this weekend,
starting with a matchup against seventh-ranked Emory University in
Atlanta on Friday night. Trinity then travels to Mount Berry to
take on Berry College on Sunday afternoon.
