Georgetown, Texas - The 16th-ranked Trinity Tigers women's golf team shot an opening-round 339 Monday and stands in third place at the West Region Invitational at the Berry Creek Country Club.

Top-ranked University of Texas-Tyler shot a 323 and is the first-round leader. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor came in at 326, and stands in second place.  The West Region tournament, hosted by Southwestern University, consists of nine NCAA Division III teams.

Taylor Moser and Alessa Hutter recorded 10-over-par 82s and are tied for eighth place in the individual tournament. Hutter is playing as an individual. The two Tiger players are four strokes in back of the leader, McKenzie Ralston of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Brigette Lee carded an 84 and is in a tie for 14th place. Hanna Niner shot an 86 and stands alone at No. 22. Madeline Moran posted an 87 and is tied for the 23rd position, while Shelby Devore is in a tie for 35th after shooting 91.

The tournament concludes Tuesday. Trinity will then defend its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title at the SCAC Championship April 20-21 at Blanco, Texas.
