Box Score San Antonio - Trinity junior outside hitter Kirby Smith has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive time.
Smith played a key role for the Tigers last weekend, as Trinity went 2-2 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational. Trinity was edged 3-2 by 12th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and by the host and #23 UW-Oshkosh. The Tigers bounced back to beat 18th-ranked Elmhurst (IL) College, and Edgewood (WI) College by scores of 3-1.
In the four matches, Smith recorded three double-doubles. She produced 17 kills and 10 digs against UW-Oshkosh, 19 kills and 19 digs in the win over Elmhurst, and 20 kills and 15 digs in the finale against Edgewood. Smith also fired in 20 kills in the match with UW-Whitewater. She led the team with 76 kills over four matches, and was second with 52 digs. Smith also accounted for four service aces.
Smith hit .295 over the weekend, averaging four kills per set. The talented Smith was rewarded for her performance by being selected for the All-Tournament Team.
This season, Smith has produced seven double-doubles. She leads the Tigers in kills, with 237 (3.54 per set), and is second in digs with 178 (2.66 per set). Smith has a hitting percentage of .284.
The Tigers (14-5) travel to Georgetown, Texas, for an SCAC Divisional. On Friday, Trinity takes on Schreiner (TX) University. Saturday's slate has the Tigers playing the third-ranked and host Southwestern University, and finishing with Texas Lutheran University.
