Box Score Seguin, Texas - The Trinity Tigers opened their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign with a 38-28 loss to Texas Lutheran University Saturday night.
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs opened the scoring early in the first quarter, and the Tigers tied the game with a TD with two minutes on the clock.
Texas Lutheran scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead, but Trinity got another late score to make it 21-14. The Bulldogs kicked a short field goal in the final seconds to take the 24-14 halftime lead.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Tigers didn't waste any time getting on the board in the fourth, scoring after just 45 seconds of the final quarter.
Texas Lutheran took advantage of two fourth-quarter touchdowns by Trinity to regain control of the game with a 38-21 lead.
Trinity scored with just 1:23 remaining, then got the onside kick to keep the game alive, but Texas Lutheran clinched the win with another interception - the third of the game for the Bulldgos.
All told, Trinity committed four turnovers in the game, while Texas Lutheran did not have any.
NOTABLES
The Tigers fell to 2-3 overall, and 0-1 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-4 and 1-0. Trinity and Texas Lutheran will play again October 29 in San Antonio.
Trinity leads the series 16-13, but Texas Lutheran has now won the last four meetings.
Austin Grauer passed for a season-high three touchdowns, completing 18-24 passes for 227 yards.
Tommy Lavine was the game's top receiver, snagging eight passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Mitchell Globe led the Tiger defense with 10 tackles, while Damiyon Harris accounted for nine. Joshua Cook had eight tackles and two pass breakups.
