Cleveland, Ohio - The Trinity men's basketball team won the consolation game Saturday at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament with an 84-70 victory over Hampden-Sydney (VA) College.

GAME SUMMARY

With the game tied 10-10 early on, Trinity used a 24-10 run to take a 14-point lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.  Hampden-Sydney cut into the lead by the break, but the Tigers still held a 39-31 halftime advantage.

Trinity doubled its lead with eight unanswered points to start the second half of action, and Hampden-Sydney never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way. 

The Tigers shot better than 50% from the field in the game, hitting 28-55 of its field goals.  Trinity also connected on 5-7 (71.4%) from three-point range in the first half.

Defensively, Trinity held Hampden-Sydney to 35.5% shooting overall, and allowed just nine made field goals in the first half.  

NOTABLES

The Tigers went 1-1 at the event, after being edged 72-71 by host Case Western Reserve University on Friday night. Trinity now stands at 2-1 on the season. Hampden-Sydney dropped to 1-2 after the loss.

Aaron Knopp led the game with 17 points in just 24 minutes of action, shooting 8-8 from the field.

Matt Jones and A.J. Pulliam each added 15 points. Jones added three assists and a pair of steals, while Pulliam drained 3-4 from distance, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Isaiah Specks and Danny Rivara rounded out Trinity's double-figure scorers with 10 points each. Specks converted 3-4 field goals and grabbed five reounds in 14 minutes off the bench for the Tigers.

The Tigers head to Abilene, Texas, Saturday, November 26, for a game with Hardin-Simmons University at 3:00 p.m. The next day, Trinity makes its home debut, by hosting the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) at 6:00 p.m.
