Box Score San Antonio - Trinity men's basketball junior guard Matt Jones has been nominated for the Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team.
The award honors student-athletes who perform exemplary community service, and exhibit leadership among their peers. The Allstate Good Works Team will be unveiled in February.
Jones, from Austin, Texas, has volunteered as a mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Texas, and the Multi-Level Educational Youth Outreach (MEYO), an after-school program for underserved children. He also was a Red Cross volunteer in Turkey at a first responder center. Jones lent a much-needed helping hand in New Orleans, Louisiana, in post-Katrina neighborhoods. Recently, he was a member of the Tiger men's basketball team's project for Habitat for Humanity in San Antonio.
Jones majors in finance, and has a minor in communication. He has been a member of Trinity's Dean's List, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
On the basketball court, Jones leads the Tigers with 32 assists in his column. He has amassed 239 assists in his career, to date. Jones is shooting nearly 57% from the field, and averages 9.6 points per game.
Trinity, led by 18th-year Head Coach Pat Cunningham, stands at 2-3 on the season. The Tigers open a two-day California road trip Friday against the host University of Redlands at the Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic. Trinity takes on the University of La Verne (CA) on Saturday.
