San Antonio - The Trinity men's basketball team had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 67-58 loss to Howard Payne (TX) University on Saturday.

Game Summary

Howard Payne took a 10-point lead, 20-10, with 9:03 remaining in the first half. The Tigers produced six points, and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless, to close to 16-20 at the 3:47 mark. Howard Payne answered with a 9-3 run of their own, as the Jackets led 29-19 at halftime.

Trinity came out in the second half on fire, going on a 17-5 run, taking a 36-34 lead with 13:36 on the clock. Howard Payne again took the lead, 44-36 at 11:41. The fighting Tigers evened the game at 49-49 with just under seven minutes to go.

The lead see-sawed, with Trinity's last advantage, 55-54, occurring at 3:19. A 9-2 run by the Yellow Jackets put the visitors up 63-56 at 1:10. The closest Trinity came after that point was 58-63 with 24 seconds remaining on two free throws.

Notables

The Tigers now stand at 4-6 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-5.

Matt Jones led the Tigers with an 18-points performance, shooting 6-17 from the field, and sinking 5-5 free throws. Over the last three games, Jones has shot 28-30 at the charity stripe, including a 16-16 effort in a win two weeks ago over Berry (GA) College. Jones shelled out three assists this game, and now has 256 in his column. He is ranked ninth on Trinity's all-time assists list, and needs eight more to take over eighth place.

Aaron Knopp recorded his first double-double, scoring 13 points, and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Knopp shot 6-13 from the field.

The Tigers led 21-5 in points off turnovers, but the Yellow Jackets held a 48-36 advantage in rebounds.
