Brigette Lee and Hanna Niner Earn WGCA Academic Honors

San Antonio - Trinity women's golfers Brigette Lee and Hanna Niner have been selected as All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

The criteria for selection as All-American Scholars are stringent. A recipient of the high honor must have a grade point average of at least 3.50.

Lee, who graduated from Trinity last May with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, became a four-time All-American Scholar. She was elected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-America At-Large Third Team for the second consecutive time. Niner, a political science major who will be a senior in the fall, earned All-America Scholar honors for the third year.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) honored Lee as the 2016 Woman of the Year. Lee and Niner tied for seventh place at the SCAC Championship at Blanco, Texas, and qualified for the All-SCAC Second Team. The Tigers won their second conference championship in the past three years. Early in the season, Niner spearheaded Trinity to the team title of the UH-Victoria (Texas) Classic, after tying for first place in the individual competition.

Trinity's Director of Golf is Carla Spenkoch, who focuses on the women's team, was elected SCAC Women's Coach of the Year for the second time. The 18th-year coach guided Trinity to a #20 national ranking in the NCAA Division III.
