Box Score San Antonio - Tiger junior outside hitter Kirby Smith has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
Smith and her teammates posted a 4-0 record last weekend at the SCAC Cross-Divisional at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Trinity defeated third-ranked Colorado College 3-1, and shut out Centenary College, Austin College, and the University of Dallas by scores of 3-0.
Over the course of four matches, Smith hit .373 (56 kills, nine errors, 126 total attacks). Smith hit a blistering .667 (12 kills, no errors, 18 total attacks) in the match-up with Dallas. She posted a mark of .619 (14 kills, one error, 21 total attacks) against Centenary, and went .387 (14 kills, two errors, 31 total attacks) against host Austin College. Smith also registered a double-double against Austin College, with 14 kills and 17 digs. Her 56 kills for the week averaged to 4.3 per set.
This season, Smith is hitting .279. Her 161 kills (3.29 per set) are a Tigers best during the 2016 campaign.
Trinity has now won six matches in a row. The Tigers stand at 12-3 overall, and are 6-1 in the SCAC.
Next weekend, the Tigers team travels to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. Trinity opens Friday with 20th-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and then takes on #23 Elmhurst (IL) College. On Saturday, the Tigers are paired with 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Edgewood (IL) College.
