Trinity Football Finishes its Season With Narrow Road Loss to Berry

Box Score

Mount Berry, Georgia – The Trinity football team finished off the 2017 season with a narrow 24-21 Southern Athletic Association road loss to Berry (GA) College on Saturday.

GAME SUMMARY

After Trinity's game-tying field goal with 8:50 to play in the fourth quarter missed wide right, Berry put together a 16-play drive that featured five first downs and chewed up the remainder of the clock to seal the win.

The Tigers started off the game by stopping the Vikings on a fourth-down attempt on the first drive of the game. Trinity's opening drive was then ended in a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown, and Berry took the early 7-0 lead.

A turnover and a punt on their next two possessions kept Trinity from gaining any momentum, but another fourth-down stop by the defense set up a six-play scoring drive that tied the game.

Berry answered back with another score to reclaim the lead, but the Tigers had an immediate answer as Jay Foster's 49-yard touchdown run tied the game again with less than four minutes left in the half.

Trinity took the second-half kickoff and marched 75 yards in eight plays to take a 21-14 lead over the undefeated Vikings. The drive was kept alive by Austin Grauer's 19-yard pass play to Jayden Holden on third-and-five, then was finished with a 12-yard scoring strike to Tommy Lavine – Grauer's second touchdown pass of the game.

Berry made its way into the red zone on its first drive of the second half, but Trinity's defense held the home team to a 26-yard field goal that kept the Tigers ahead 21-17.

The next drive for the Vikings finished just after the start of the fourth quarter, and it ended with a short touchdown pass that put Berry in front for the first time since late in the first half.

Trinity worked its way down to the Berry 12 yard line, but a false start penalty was followed up by two sacks, and the Tiger offense was pushed back to the 23. That led to the a missed field goal attempt from 40 yards away that would have tied the game, which then led to Berry running out the clock to steal the win.
