Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity offense hammered out 19 hits on its way to an 18-8 win over Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University on Monday night.
GAME SUMMARY
After a scoreless first inning, Our Lady of the Lake got on the board with a single run in the second, but the lead would be short-lived.
In the bottom of the inning, Michael Goodrich sparked a five-run inning with a game-tying solo homer, and the Tigers piled up four more hits after that to lead 5-1.
Trinity added four more runs in the third, then answered a fourth-inning run by the Saints with another five-spot in the bottom half to take a 14-2 lead. Rafe Chaumette's three-run double in the fourth blew the inning wide open.
In the top of the fifth, OLLU's offense came to life with a five-run inning, cutting into the Tiger lead. Trinity was not done scoring, though, and took back three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 17-7.
After OLLU scored again in the sixth, Trinity was held scoreless for the first time since the first inning, but made up for it after the seventh-inning stretch. Mason Meredith hit a solo homer to lead off the inning, triggering the run-rule to end the game.
NOTABLES
Trinity improves to 24-14 this season, while Our Lady of the Lake falls to 21-25. The Tigers have won seven of their last eight games, including four consecutive victories.
Michael Davis led a bevy of Tigers with multi-hit games, going 5-5 with four runs scored and three RBI. Davis hit two home runs in the game - his first of the season - and is the second Trinity player to collect five hits in a game this year.
Rafe Chaumette hit 4-5 with three doubles and six RBI, joining Zachary Oretsky as the only Tiger players to drive in six runs in one game.
Micahel Goodrich was 4-4 with four runs scored and also cranked his fourth home run of the season to tie for the team lead.
Jake Martin collected three hits and scored a pair of runs, while Oretsky also scored three times in the game.
Mason Meredith was 1-3 at the plate, drawing two walks, scoring four runs, and picking up three RBI. His walk-off homer in the seventh was the first of his career.
Matthew Thomas (1-1) picked up the victory, striking out six batters in four innings, and allowing two runs on two hits.
