San Antonio - The Trinity volleyball team is now ranked 10th in the nation, by the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll.
Led by 33rd-year Head Coach Julie Jenkins, Trinity earned its highest ranking since the 2009 campaign, when the Tigers were ranked eighth nationally. That season, Trinity finished with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals, and a 30-12 record.
The Tigers entered their Trinity National Invitational ranked 14th last weekend. Victories over sixth-ranked California Lutheran University and #23 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, along with a decision over Whitman (WA) College, prompted the rise in the ranking. Trinity (3-1) lost a hard-fought battle to top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Calvin (MI) College.
Senior outside hitter Madeline McKay and junior defensive specialist Sarah Mullens were elected to the All-Tournament Team, and Mullens was also named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Next up for the Tigers is a weekend trip to Thousand Oaks, California, for the California Lutheran-hosted Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. Trinity takes on Pomona-Pitzer (CA) Colleges and ninth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges on Friday. The Tigers meet Whittier (CA) College and host California Lutheran, now ranked 11th, on Saturday.
