#7 Trinity Finishes off Undefeated Weekend of SCAC Play

Kerrville, Texas - The seventh-ranked Trinity volleyball team went undefeated at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Divisional Saturday with victories over Southwestern (TX) University and Austin (TX) College.

 

MATCH SUMMARIES

The Tigers started off the day with a 3-0 decision over Southwestern, winning 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.

Trinity jumped out to a 16-5 first-set lead over the Pirates and never looked back. The Tigers pulled away to an 18-11 lead in the second set, then held off a short rally by Southwestern to take a 2-0 set lead.

The Tigers were within a point of finishing the sweep at 24-17, but Southwestern rattled off five unanswered points to get to within two. Trinity once again stopped the rally and the sweep was complete.

Trinity defeated Austin College 3-1 in the final match on Saturday, winning 23-25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-11.

The Tigers and 'Roos battled all the way to the end in the opening set. Trinity led 23-22 late, but Austin took the final three points to take the early led over the Tigers.

Trinity won the next three sets with ease, though, and finished off the weekend with a 9-1 set record in three match victories.

 

NOTABLES

Including Friday's decision over Centenary (LA) College, Trinity now stands at 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.  Southwestern dropped to a 3-5 overall mark, and Austin College is 7-4.

Maggi Linker hit .400 against Southwestern, along with posting 10 kills. Linker also had 10 kills in the match with Austin College and hit .375.

Madeline McKay was the leader in both matches with 16 kills, while hitting .483 against Austin College.

Katrina Lieberman had a double-double in the match with Austin College, with 49 assists and 11 digs. Lieberman recorded 39 assists in the opener.

Sarah Mullens made 23 digs against Austin College. Mullens shared the lead with Jade Schoenberger as each player had 14 digs against Southwestern.

Annie Rose Leggett accounted for 17 digs against Austin College.

 

UP NEXT

Trinity will compete next Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in Bloomington, Illinois. Friday's action includes the University of Chicago (IL) at 2:30 p.m. and a showdown with the host and 11th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m.
