San Antonio - Trinity junior defender Kristen Canepa has the honor of being named the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Canepa and the taut Trinity defense opened the campaign with two shutout home games. The 12th-ranked Tigers first played Pacific Lutheran (WA) University to a 0-0 draw, and then beat the University of Puget Sound (WA) 1-0 in a double-overtime battle. Trinity stands at 1-0-1 in the early part of the season.
The Tigers permitted only five shots on goal in more than 200 minutes of playing time. Trinity's opponents were allowed only 18 total shots in the two games.
Trinity will host two weekend games starting with fourth-ranked Hardin-Simmons (TX) University at 8:00 p.m. Friday. The game will be a rematch of last season's NCAA Division III Second-Round Playoff game that was won 3-2 by the Cowgirls. Sunday's game is with the University of Texas at Tyler with a noon starting time.
