Box Score Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Trinity sophomore Emily Ellis has been selected for the NCAA Division III Volleyball All-Tournament Team.
The Tiger middle blocker and her teammates competed at the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Seventh-ranked Trinity opened the eight-team tournament with a 3-2 victory over third-ranked Calvin (MI) College in the Quarterfinals. Eventual NCAA champion Johns Hopkins (MD) University eliminated Trinity 3-1 in the Semifinals.
Elllis was responsible for 32.5 points in the two matches, including 18 against Calvin. She hit .375 in the tournament and posted a .429 mark in the opener. Ellis fired in 25 kills in the postseason event and had 15 in her column in the matchup with Calvin. She blocked 15 shots over the weekend, including nine against Johns Hopkins.
Earlier, Ellis was elected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-America Second Team, the AVCA All-West Region First Team, and the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) First Team.
Ellis was Trinity's top hitter for the season with a .415 mark and led in total blocks with 152 (1.08/set). She finished third on the team in kills with 342 (2.43/set).
Led by 35th-year Head Coach Julie Jenkins, the Tigers completed the season with a 37-5 overall record. Trinity finished third at the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, and the first since 2002. The Tigers were national runners-up in 1999.
Trinity won its 19th overall SCAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the 25th occasion.
