Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity volleyball team jumped up two positions to ninth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top-25 Poll.
Led by Head Coach Julie Jenkins, the Tigers turned in a 2-1 record last week at the East to West Tournament at St. Louis, Missouri. Trinity defeated perennial volleyball powerhouse Juniata (PA) College, then ranked sixth, and California Lutheran University. The host Washington University-St. Louis edged the Tigers by a score of 3-2 in the final match of the tournament.
Trinity sophomore Emily Ellis earned several accolades for her performance last week. The Tiger middle blocker was tabbed for the East to West All-Tournament Team and was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week. Ellis also was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Week.
Ellis posted 20 blocks (1.5/set) and 32 kills (2.5/set), and hit .359 over the three tournament matches. This season, Ellis has amassed 45 blocks (1.1/set) and 99 kills (2.41/set), along with a .346 hitting percentage.
Avery Tuggle has fired in 123 kills (2.86/set), Katrina Lieberman has posted 238 assists (5.80/set), and Sami Lin is responsible for 169 digs (4.02/set).
Trinity (8-3) travels to Denver, Colorado, this weekend for the SCAC Conference Crossover Tournament at Johnson & Wales (CO) University. The Tigers take on Austin (TX) College and the University of St. Thomas (TX) Friday, then face Texas Lutheran University and Johnson & Wales Saturday.
