Box Score San Antonio - Trinity outside hitter Avery Tuggle has been selected as the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the new season.
Tuggle paced the 17th-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 record at their season-opening Trinity National Invitational last weekend and was tabbed as the Tournament Most Valuable Player. The Tigers claimed victories over #15 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX), #25 College of Saint Benedict (MN), Neumann (PA) University, and the University of Minnesota-Morris.
The Trinity junior posted 47 kills (3.35/set) and hit .296 for the weekend, along with chalking up 45 digs (3.21/set) and eight service aces. Tuggle racked up 19 kills against Mary Hardin-Baylor and hit .382 in the process, while accounting for 19 digs. Tuggle also amassed a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs against Saint Benedict, while hitting .375.
Trinity goes on the road Friday and Saturday to Richardson, Texas, for the UT-Dallas Invitational. The Tigers take on the University of Texas-Dallas and 23rd-ranked Pacific Lutheran (WA) on Friday, and Pomona-Pitzer (CA) Colleges and Aurora (IL) University on Saturday.
