Trinity Falls to St. Thomas to Open SCAC Weekend at Home

San Antonio – The Trinity men's basketball team opened up a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend at home with an 88-64 loss to the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Friday night.

GAME SUMMARY

After both teams traded scoring plays early on in the game, Trinity edged in front 14-9 with five unanswered points. St. Thomas came back to take a brief lead, then the Tigers pulled back in front by five and held that lead at the 4:48 mark of the first period.

The Celts then put together an 18-2 run to close the opening half, which included 16 consecutive points scored at one point. Trinity missed four consecutive shots and committed two turnovers during the run, and St. Thomas took a 46-35 lead into the break.

Just 6:21 into the second period, St. Thomas had pushed that lead to 19 points (58-39). The Tigers never got closer than a 14-point deficit the rest of the game.

 

NOTABLES

Trinity fell to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in conference with the loss, while St. Thomas remained undefeated at 11-0 and 4-0 in SCAC play.

This is the first meeting between the two teams in the SCAC era, which dates back to the 1991-92 season.

Luke Stuart came off the bench with a career-high 13 points in just 16 minutes of action, tying for the team lead in scoring. Stuart hit 5-7 from the field and 3-3 from beyond the arc, as well as handing out a pair of assists.

Ben Hanley reached double figures for the fourth time in his last five games, finishing with 13 points on 6-13 shooting.

Carter Laramore and Jack Williams tied for the team lead with three assists each. Laramore added six rebounds, while Williams finished with eight points.

Jordan Lippman scored nine points and pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds, while AJ Clark had seven points and four boards.
