Win Streak Snapped as #11 Trinity Was Edged by St. Thomas

Box Score

Houston, Texas – The 11th-ranked Tiger women's basketball team had its 12-game winning streak snapped in a narrow 83-81 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road loss at the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Friday night.

GAME SUMMARY

Trinity led by as many as 20 points in the second quarter, but St. Thomas erased a 14-point halftime deficit with a 26-12 third quarter. The Tigers led early in the fourth, but could never pull away from the home team.

The game was tied for the 13th time at 78-78 with 2:13 remaining. After getting fouled and making 1-2 at the line, St. Thomas forced a Trinity turnover that led to a layup that made it an 81-78 game with 1:37 to play. The Tigers turned the ball over again with just over a minute left, followed by both teams missing three-point attempts that left 27 seconds on the clock.

After its third straight foul put Trinity in the bonus with 22 seconds left, St. Thomas made 1-2 at the line to make it a four-point game. The Tigers couldn't get a quick shot away, but came out of a timeout with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 82-81 with 5.8 seconds to go.

Following timeouts for both teams, St. Thomas was able to escape briefly on the ensuing inbounds play to nearly run out the clock. Trinity was able to get the foul with 0.7 left, but St. Thomas held on for the upset victory.
