Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity men's and women's swimming & diving teams widened their leads Thursday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships at Josh Davis Natatorium.
HIGHLIGHTS
The defending champion Tiger women have scored 358 points and lead Southwestern (TX) University by 81 points after the second of four days of competition. Trinity held an eight-point advantage after Wednesday's opening day.
Trinity's men have posted 326 points and hold a 51-point lead over Southwestern, which is more than double its lead from yesterday's action.
Mabel Fowler won the women's 500-yard freestyle for the third consecutive year, posting a new SCAC and school-record time of 4:57.37. Fowler also registered an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark.
A Trinity swimmer has now captured the 500 freestyle eight years in a row.
Meghan Magill was runner-up to her teammate and earned All-SCAC honors.
Morgen Reyna emerged as the champion of the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time of 2:07.46. Reyna beat the two-time champion from Southwestern by more than two seconds.
The quartet of Fowler, Star Rosales, Elizabeth Nelson, and Reyna captured the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.09. The win marked the fifth Trinity victory in the last six years in the relay.
Rosales also placed third for All-SCAC honors in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 23.94 seconds.
Beau Tipton was the champion of the men's 500 freestyle, touching the pad in 4:34.17. The 2019 SCAC Men's Swimmer of the Year set a personal record, and his performance is ranked in the top three on Trinity's all-time list.
Grayden Nelson placed second to Tipton in the 500 freestyle to also garner All-SCAC honors in the event.
Shamzi Alkaff, Nolan Anthony, Eamon Morris, and Leon Faulk were runners-up in the 200 freestyle relay by a mere 0.01 seconds, clocking in at 1:24:07.
Alkaff earned individual All-SCAC recoginition as he was a second-place finisher by a half-second in the 50 freestyle, while Matt Lanzara was also an All-SCAC honoree after he finished third in the 200 individual medley.
Libby Goode, Caroline North, Logann Khollman, and Caroline Westholder won the "B" title in the women's 200 freestyle relay.
Joseph Kelly was the men's ninth-place finisher in the 200 individual medley, and Ben Adams won the "B" distinction in the 50 freestyle.

Day three begins Friday at 10:30 a.m. with swimming preliminaries. Men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter diving will be held at approximately 1:15 p.m., withthe swimming finals set to start at 6:00 p.m.
