Trinity Swimming & Diving Delivers Strong Performances On Day Three of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The third day of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships concluded with the Tiger men's and women's teams keeping their momentum, as the women are in 19th and the men are 27th heading into the final day of competition.

Jack Hester (Round Rock, Texas / Cedar Ridge) swam the 100 backstroke for the Tiger men, touching in the morning at a time of 48.26 and finishing in 8th place, making the A final. In the evening, he earned All-American honors with an eighth-place trophy and a slight add from the morning, finishing off the evening's events swim for both teams.

The women's 800 freestyle relay also delivered a standout performance, placing 13th to earn Second Team All-American recognition and the highest finish in program history for the event. The relay also earned valuable points for the team while moving into third place on the program's all-time top-10 list for the event. The group of Burns, first-year Kaya Alvegaard-Struble (Kansas City, Mo. / Pembroke Hill), Benson and Carter finished with a time of 7:32.53.

The women's 200 medley relay placed 24th with a time of 1:45.31 in this morning's prelims. The relay was made up of first-year Ava Easley (Allen, Texas / Lovejoy), senior captain Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird), and juniors Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy) and Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs).

Easley also competed in the 100 backstroke, finishing the race with a time just off her season best while continuing to gain valuable experience at the national level.

Looking Forward:
Tomorrow concludes the NCAA championships, and it is a jam-packed day for the Tigers. Easley finishes her first ever NCAAs with a 100 freestyle, and Hester and Alvegaard-Struble have the 200 backstroke. Fender has the 1650 to round out his successful meet so far, and Burns has her final collegiate swim of the 200 breaststroke. Lastly is the 400 free relay, where the four women on it is still up in the air, but it is sure to be a thrilling final day.
