Box Score Denver, Colorado – The 13th-ranked Tiger women's basketball team began a road trip in Colorado with an 82-38 win at Johnson & Wales (CO) University on Friday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Trinity never trailed in the game, opening things up with a 12-1 lead after less than four minutes. Johnson & Wales hit a three-pointer with 5:41 left in the quarter, which was the only bucket of the opening period for the home team. The Tigers took a 24-4 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
The second quarter was more of the same as Trinity began by scoring eighth unanswered points for a 32-4 lead. Johnson & Wales scored just five points in the second quarter – all of which came in the final 2:35 of the opening half. The Tigers took a 39-9 lead into halftime.
The Tigers pushed the lead to 33 points by the end of the third quarter, outscoring Johnson & Wales 19-14. Trinity kept up the pressure to close out the game, scoring 24 points in the fourth to close out the game.
NOTABLES
The Tigers move to 19-3 overall and 14-1 atop the SCAC standings, while Johnson & Wales is now 4-16 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
Leading scorer Abby Holland recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. She hit 7-12 from the field and added a pair of assists.
Holland becomes just the seventh player in school history to score 400 or more points in multiple seasons with the Tigers. She finished 2018-19 with 493 points scored.
Kelly Simmons matched Holland with a team-leading 15 points in the game, hitting 6-9 from the field and 2-3 from the foul line. Simmons added six rebounds and two blocks to her stat line tonight.
With the two blocks, Simmons becomes the 12th player in school history to reach 60 or more blocks in a career.
Jordan Rudd recorded four steals and three assists to lead Trinity in both categories. She is now seventh in school history in career assists, and is the top 10 in school history for steals in a single season.
Ashlyn Milton came off the bench with 10 points on 3-4 shooting in just nine minutes, while Abbey Wilson hit two three-pointers and 2-2 at the foul line for eight points.
Hailey Coleman also had eight points off the bench, adding four rebounds, two assists, and three steals in her 18 minutes of game time.
