Men's Basketball Snaps Three-Game Skid With Win Over Dallas

Box Score

San Antonio – Trinity's men's basketball team earned an 81-68 home win over the University of Dallas (TX) in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night.

GAME SUMMARY

The Tigers started things off with five quick points and never trailed the entire game. With Dallas trailing by three with just under 12 minutes left in the first period, Trinity rattled off an 18-4 run that made it a 30-13 game with 6:26 to play until the half. Dallas scored nine of the next 11 points to cut the lead to 10, but the Tigers bounced back to take a 42-27 lead at the break.

That lead dropped to 11 points less than a minute into the second half, but seven unanswered Trinity points pushed the lead back to 18. The Tigers led by as many as 21 points in the period, which held up until the 6:58 mark when Dallas made its final push.

The Crusaders drew within 12 a little over four minutes later, but Trinity made back-to-back shots and Dallas could get no closer the rest of the way. The Crusaders did pull within 12 again in the final minute, but a Tiger layup and two free throws sealed the victory.

NOTABLES

Trinity improves to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in the SCAC with the win, which also snaps a three-game losing streak. Dallas falls to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in league play.

The Tigers and Crusaders split the regular season series, with each team winning at home. This marks the fourth straight season that the two teams have split the regular season matchups, though Trinity still holds a 33-10 record against Dallas (since 1991-92).

Jack Williams led Trinity with a career-high 25 points on 10-18 shooting, also finishing with seven rebounds to tie his career-high in that category as well. Williams made 3-4 from the three-point line, which earns him new career marks in field goals made and three-pointers made.

Ben Canady was the only other Tiger player to reach double figures in scoring, adding 12 points on 4-5 from the field and 3-5 from the line. Canady also set a new career-best with nine assists, which is the most for a Tiger player since Matt Jones had 10 in November of 2016.

David Nickell secured a career-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points and a team-leading three blocks in the game. Nickell has recorded 10 or more rebounds in three of the last four games for Trinity.

AJ Clark and Ben Hanley chipped in with eight points each, adding a total of 14 rebounds and seven assists.

Trinity held Dallas to less than 35% shooting for the game and secured nine steals on 16 total turnovers. The Tigers also shot just over 45% on offense and connected on 8-11 at the foul line.
