Trinity Women's Basketball Falls to Colorado College in Home Opener

Box Score

San Antonio, Texas – Trinity's women's basketball team suffered a 55-57 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference defeat at the hands of Colorado College on Friday. The loss snapped a 19-game winning streak for Trinity in the series. Colorado College last beat Trinity in the 2011-12 season.

THE RUNDOWN

Colorado College came out with a strong first-quarter performance, using a 12-2 run to take a 16-8 lead at the break.

The second quarter belonged to Trinity, though, as the home team rattled off a 10-1 run to take an 18-17 lead less than three minutes into the period. Hailey Coleman hit back-to-back layups to put the Tigers in front.

Ashlyn Milton's three-pointer at the 2:41 mark put Trinity in front 30-25, but Colorado College answered with a three of its own to cut the lead back to just two. Neither team scored again over the final 2:03 and Trinity held a slim 30-28 lead at halftime.

After a 2-for-17 shooting performance to open the game, Trinity scored 22 points and forced 12 turnovers in the second quarter.

Colorado College tied the game with the first basket of the third quarter, but Emily Daniel's three put Trinity in front with 7:01 left. The Tigers held onto the lead the entire period, but Colorado College kept the game within reach.

Trinity pulled out to a 52-42 lead less than a minute into the fourth period with four quick points, but Colorado came back with six unanswered to shrink the lead once again.

Coleman converted another layup with 6:40 to play to make it a 54-48 advantage, but that would prove to be the final basket for Trinity.

After pulling to within one point in the final half-minute, Colorado College kept its possession alive with back-to-back offensive rebounds. A Trinity foul led to a pair of free throws for the visitors – the first of which tied things up 55-55. Colorado College missed the next foul shot, but once again got the offensive rebound to retain possession with 18 seconds to play.

Colorado College ran the clock down until the final seconds, scoring on a layup with 2.3 seconds left to take the lead. Trinity went for the win after a timeout, but Milton's three rimmed out and Colorado College escaped with the win.

NUMBERS TO NOTE
