Box Score HOUSTON - Two golden goals in two games! The no. 2 team in Division III showed an immense amount of resiliency down some of their top players. The Trinity University Men's Soccer team defeated St. Thomas (Tex.) 3-2 in double overtime to improve to 9-0-0 (1-0-0 SCAC). Today's golden goal came from the head of senior Jacob Galan (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan). After today's loss, the Celts fall to 5-2-2 (1-0-1 SCAC).
The Rundown
St. Thomas (Tex.) struck first in today's afternoon tilt. The Celts scored a goal in the 26th minute of the match to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers immediately went down and answered with a goal of their own to tie things at one a piece. Senior Philip Duenez (San Antonio, Texas / Stevens) scored his second goal of the season off an assist from first-year Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch).
A minute later, Cain dished out his second assist of the match to junior Chen Adjei (Euless, Texas / Trinity). Adjei notched his first goal of the season to briefly give the Tigers a 2-1 lead over St. Thomas (Tex.). The Celts scored another goal to make the score 2-2 in the 31st minute of the match; the Tigers and Celts went into halftime tied.
After a combined four goals between both teams in the first half, neither team managed to get a ball in the net over the course of the second half. Trinity took four total shots while St. Thomas (Tex.) took five total shots during the second half. Two Of the Tigers four shots were on goal while three of the Celts shots were on goal.
During the first overtime, TU only managed to take one shot on goal while the Trinity backline put their foot down and held St. Thomas to just two shots while none of them being on goal.
In the 103rd minute of the match, Galan decided it was time for the Tigers to go home. The senior defender headed a ball from sophomore Jack Eubank (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham Broughton) to give Trinity a 3-2 win over St. Thomas (Tex.) on the road.
