Box Score SEGUIN, Texas - The No. 2 nationally ranked Trinity University Men's Soccer team got off to a slow start but scored three second half goals to ultimately take down the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University by a score of 3-2.
The Tigers improve to an unblemished 10-0-0 (2-0-0 SCAC) while TLU falls to 4-4-1 (0-2-0 SCAC). TU scored three goals in a span of six minutes to jump out to a 3-1 lead before holding off a late push from Texas Lutheran.
The Rundown
Texas Lutheran struck first with a goal in the 39th minute of the match. With the Tigers not being able to get much going in the first half, they went into halftime trailing TLU 1-0.
After drawing a penalty in the box on a promising run, the Tigers earned a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Fraser Burns (Dalry, Scotland / Garnock Academy) stepped up and buried the pk to tie things at one a piece in the 48th minute of the match.
In the 52nd minute, first-year Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) found the back of the net to give Trinity their first lead of the night off of an assist from Burns.
The Tigers quickly pounced on the ball again and found the net in the 53rd minute of the match. Senior midfielder Brady Johnston (Northampton, England / Cinco Ranch) scored his first goal of the season off of an assist from sophomore Jack Eubank (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham Broughton) to give Trinity a 3-1 lead.
TLU made a late push with a goal in the 78th minute of the match to make the score 3-2 in favor of the TU. For the remainder of the match, Trinity's backline played exceptionally well by minimizing Texas Lutheran's scoring opportunities. The Bulldogs late rally was not enough as the Tigers held on to win an important SCAC match-up. Trinity took seven total shots on the night while Texas Lutheran took nine shots. Both teams took five shots on goal.
