#24 Tiger Women's Soccer Blanks Dallas in SCAC Semifinal

Box Score

IRVING, Texas – The second-seeded Trinity women's soccer team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament play with a 2-0 win over hosting University of Dallas on Friday night.

The Tigers scored twice in the first half and that was enough to advance to Sunday's SCAC Championship match against #1 seed Southwestern University.

Cece Hendricks (Travelers Rest, S.C. / Saint Joseph's Catholic School) scored her second goal of the season in the fifth minute of play, which also turned out to be her second game-winner of the year. She also led a Trinity defense that notched its ninth shutout of the season.

The Rundown

Dallas recorded the initial shot in the game in the opening minutes, but it was a foul by the Crusaders that led to the first goal. Hendricks converted a penalty kick just 4:20 into the contest to give the Tigers an early lead that held up the entire game.

Both teams had several shots after that, but it wasn't until the clock approached 10 minutes left in the half that the score was changed. Kaity Ward (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Preparatory) gave Trinity a two-goal lead with her score in the 35th minute. Isabel Makulski (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) provided the assist.

Just minutes into the second half, Tiger goalkeeper Lauren Bolish (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights) made a pair of saves to keep Dallas off the board. The first came less than four minutes into the period and the second was just shy of the 10-minute mark. Bolish also came up with her fourth save of the night in the 87th minute to preserve the clean-sheet victory.

Numbers to Note

With her goal in tonight's game, Hendricks becomes the ninth Tiger player to score more than once this season. She is also one of just four players with multiple game-winners this year.

Ward increases her team-leading total to 16 goals in 16 games so far this year, while Makulski picked up her second assist of the season.

Bolish picked up her first solo shutout of the season in tonight's game, though she has shared in three other shutouts on the year.

Up Next

Sunday's SCAC Championship will be a rematch between Southwestern and Trinity at 1:00 p.m. The Tigers and Pirates met in Georgetown, Texas, in mid-October, and Trinity had its streak of 136 regular season SCAC wins stopped in a 2-1 loss.
