Box Score IRVING, Texas - Trinity Women's Soccer have been crowned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Champions for the 2021 season after shutting out the Pirates of Southwestern University in a 5-0 win.
The Tigers won the SCAC Tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons. This also marks the program's 24th SCAC Championship. This 5-0 win tied the largest victory margin in a SCAC Championship match since 2013 when Trinity defeated Southwestern 5-0.
The Tigers came out on the prowl and controlled the pitch from the first whistle. Trinity put up 12 shots with seven of those on frame before finding the net in the 27th minute of the match.
The Rundown
Sophomore midfielder Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) was dribbling just outside the box on the left side of the pitch and found senior midfielder Kaity Ward (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier Prep) who buried the first goal of the day to give TU an early lead. Southwestern took just two shots in the first half, one of which was a strike that hit the top crossbar. The TU backline did a great job of containing the Pirates counterattack during the first half. The Tigers made multiple slide tackles in front of their goal to deter any other chance SU had at scoring.
With just over a minute left to play in the first half, sophomore midfielder Tedi Del Prete (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) fired a shot that was saved by the Southwestern keeper.
After drawing a foul, Trinity set up a free kick about 20 yards out. Sophomore midfielder Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, Texas / Louis D. Brandeis) took the free kick and found junior midfielder Emma Everts (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) who netted her third goal of the season to give Trinity a 2-0 lead with just under 40 minutes left in the match.
A few minutes later, junior forward Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) scored her 12th goal of the year thanks to a dish from Everts to give TU a commanding 3-0 lead.
First-year forward Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) found the net for the Tigers fourth goal of the afternoon after senior midfielder Madison Horner (Austin, Texas / Bowie) dished out the set-up pass in the 85th minute of the match. With the match winding down, first year Taylor Campbell found the net for her second goal of the season after first year Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) found her to give Trinity a 5-0 win over the regular season Champions.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Bolish (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights) recorded a shutout in goal with two saves.
TU outshot SU 33-6 on the afternoon with both teams taking four corner kicks throughout the match.
