Box Score Blanco, Texas – The Trinity University women's golf team trails Southwestern University by just one stroke after the opening round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday.
The Tigers shot a combined score of 320 in the first round of action, remaining in contention with the tournament-leading score of 319 from the Pirates. The University of St. Thomas is third with a score of 336 after day one, followed by Schreiner University and Centenary College in fourth and fifth.
Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) leads the way for Trinity in third place individually after shooting a first-round score of 78, followed closely in fourth place by fellow Tiger Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls) and her score of 79. Hsiu is one of just two Tigers to card two birdies in the first round, and she is also tied for the tournament lead in Par 5 scoring. Flynn notched 11 pars and a birdie in her first 18 holes and is tied for third or better in both Par 3 and Par 5 scoring.
Raquel Hill (Canyon Lake, Texas / Smithson Valley) is tied for fourth individually with her score of 80, and Caterina Mora Adrover (Portocolom, Spain / IES Felantix) shot an 83 to tie for ninth. Hill leads the field in Par 3 scoring after 18 holes and is tied with Hsiu for the team lead with two birdies. Adrover is tied with Flynn for second behind Hill in Par 3 scoring. Both players are tied for seventh in the tournament with eight pars among the first 18 holes.
Delaney Kelley (Marble Falls, Texas / Marble Falls) stands 16th after shooting an 88 to open up the tournament. She is also tied for fourth in the field in Par 4 scoring.
The tournament concludes with another single round tomorrow. After winning back-to-back SCAC Championships in 2016 and 2017, the Tigers have finished second in each of the last two conference events.
