Box Score Blanco, Texas – After trailing by one shot heading into today's final round, the Tiger women's golf team won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship by eight shots on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity wins its fifth overall conference title and its first since winning back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017. The Tigers have been the runner-up in each of the last two conference events. Trinity shot a combined score of 645 (320-325) to win the title, surging past Southwestern University in second place with a final score of 653 (319-334). The University of St. Thomas finished third, followed by Schreiner University and Centenary College. Texas Lutheran University and the University of Dallas had just three players each, who competed as individuals.
Three Tiger golfers were named to the All-SCAC First Team, led by Raquel Hill (Canyon Lake, Texas / Smithson Valley) and Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) who finished in second and third place, respectively. Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls) finished in a tie for fifth to join her teammates on the All-SCAC First Team.
Caterina Mora Adrover (Portocolom, Spain / IES Felantix) received All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition, while Delaney Kelley (Marble Falls, Texas / Marble Falls) just missed the All-SCAC Second Team after finishing in a tie for 12th. As a senior, though, Kelley was rewarded the SCAC Championship trophy in her final collegiate event.
Hill tied her career-low round by shooting a 75 in Tuesday's action, finishing with a score of 80-75 (155) and finishing as the runner-up by just one stroke. She finished in the top five in Par 3, Par 4, and Par 5 scoring and was also third in the field with four birdies. Hill also had 19 pars among her 36 holes, which was fourth in the tournament. She also earned First Team All-SCAC honors in 2019 and was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year.
Hsiu shot 78-78 (156) to finish third overall and her eagle on #8 today was the only eagle of the tournament. She was first in Par 5 scoring and second in Par 4 scoring for the tournament, as well as tying four fourth with three birdies. Hsiu also finished sixth in the field with 17 pars. She finishes her first collegiate season with five top 10 finishes in five chances – including three third-place finishes.
Flynn made the top 10 for the fourth time this season by shooting 79-87 (166) tot tie for fifth. She was third in the field with 20 pars, as well as finishing second in Par 3 scoring and tied for third in Par 5 scoring.
Kelley joined Hill as the only Tigers to improve their score in today's round, shooting 88-85 (173) to tie for 12th place individually. She was also tied for fifth in the tournament in Par 4 scoring.
Adrover tied for 19th individually after shooting 83-91 (174) for the tournament. She was eighth in the field with 15 pars and tied for fourth in Par 3 scoring.
Trinity is led by Director of Golf and Head Women's Golf Coach Carla Spenkoch, who is in her 23rd season at the helm of the Tigers. Coach Spenkoch also led the Tigers to SCAC titles in 2014, 2016, and 2017. Trinity's only other conference title came in 1995. Coach Spenkoch had this to say after winning today's SCAC Championship: "I am really proud of the team with this come-from-behind victory. It was a great team effort all the way around."
