Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior middle blocker Emma Funk (Pass Christian, Miss. / Our Lady) and senior outside hitter Avery Tuggle (Cedar Creek, Texas / Cedar Creek) of second-ranked Trinity University Volleyball were named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday night.
Funk earned her second SCAC weekly award of her career, first on offense, by leading the Tigers with 19 combined kills and eight total blocks in the Tigers' doubleheader sweep of Texas Lutheran University last weekend.
Monday's announcement marked the fifth time Tuggle has earned conference weekly honors in her career, the first to come on the defensive end, after the senior posted a career-high nine blocks and added a total of 20 digs in the prior-mentioned matchups with TLU.
The pair represent the second and third time the Tigers have landed atop the weekly SCAC release following senior outside hitter Annie Rose Leggett's (Austin, Texas / Westwood) offensive award in the first week of play.
Tuggle recently was named American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week for her 23-kill, 11-dig effort in Calgaard Gym against University of Dallas two weekends ago.
No. 2 Trinity University Volleyball remains idle this week in preparation for the SCAC Championship tournament, scheduled to begin the weekend of April 15. Date, time and opponent will be announced following the conclusion of this upcoming SCAC weekend.
