LEXINGTON, Ky. - Second-ranked Trinity University Volleyball received a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in partnership with the United States Marine Corps in an announcement from the organization Monday.

The Tigers have earned the recognition for the fifth time since its inception following the 1992-93 season and have done so in back-to-back fashion twice (2012-13, 2013-14 and 2019-20, 2020-21).

From the AVCA:

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Eleven Tigers were named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll in 2020-21, nine of which reached the Trinity University Dean's List led by first-year middle blocker Carley Broekhuizen (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Kalamazoo Christian) and junior rightside hitter Sarah Williammee (Denver, Colo. / East) with Dean's List results in both semesters.

Trinity was nationally-ranked fourth or higher from the AVCA throughout the 2021 spring season, including its first-ever No. 1 ranking on March 3, on its way to a 13-3 overall record, 12-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play and a SCAC Championship appearance.

Trinity Volleyball opens the 2021 season hosting Our Lady of the Lake September 1, followed by the Trinity Fall Classic September 3-4.
