Box Score SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity University Women's Soccer team remains unscaved after holding off no. 21 California Lutheran University by a score of 3-2. This match between the Tigers and the Regals was personal as CLU defeated Trinity by a score of 3-1 late in the 2019 season. With tonight's win, Trinity improves to 3-0-0 and adds a win to a 13 match winning streak that dates back to the 2021 Spring season.
California Lutheran was on the offensive from the whistle. The Regals applied pressure to the strong Trinity back line and scored a goal in the 12th minute of the match as a result. Using the "bend but don't break" mentality, the Tigers defense settled in and made key stops which resulted in an equalizing goal during the 43rd minute of the first period. The goal was scored by Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, TX / Weatherford) and assisted by Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, TX / University of North Texas).
CLU added another goal in the 48th minute of the match to take a 2-1 lead. Kaity Ward (Phoenix, AZ / Xavier College Preparatory) scored her first goal of the year to tie the score up at 2-2 in the 66th minute; Bosco and Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, TX / Robert Vela) tallied the double assist. During the 67th minute, Ward made what looked to be a promising run before being fouled by the goalkeeper of CLU which resulted in a penalty kick. Zingelmann stepped in and buried the penalty kick to score the game winning goal. Trinity is now 2-for-2 in penalty kicks this season. The Tigers escaped with a 3-2 victory after a slow start to the match.
