Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - No. 1 Trinity University Volleyball fell in its final match of the 2021 East to West Battle, 3-1, to No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday afternoon on the campus of California Lutheran University.

The Tigers (6-1) opened the match as it had earlier in this weekend's tournament as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead and finished on a 7-0 run to controll the opening set, 25-17, with 17 kills on a .375 attack rate. The momentum Trinity had carried since the beginning of the 2021 campaign dissipated with the start of the second frame as the Tigers posted hitting percentages below .100 in the second and third.

Trinity opened both the third and fourth frames with early leads, including a 7-2 advantage in the third; CMS responded with a 7-0 run and a 10-3 burst in the third and fourth sets, respectively. The Tigers clawed back into a 19-18 lead and a 23-23 draw before ultimately ceding to the Athenas.

Senior outside hitter Annie Rose Leggett (Austin, Texas / Westwood) collected her second double-double of 2021 with her team-highs of 13 kills and 16 digs, both season-highs as well. Junior setter Marisa Amarino (Calabasas, Calif. / Notre Dame Prep) notched her first double-double of the season with 26 assists and 11 digs, also season-highs.

No. 1 Trinity Volleyball returns to San Antonio next weekend to host the 2021 Trinity National Invitational. The Tigers then host their makeup match with Our Lady of the Lake University Tuesday, September 21 before travelling to Colorado Springs, Colo. to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
