#12 Tigers Topple Mary Hardin-Baylor in 3-0 Victory

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity University Men's Soccer team improves to an unblemished 5-0-0 record after shutting out the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Tigers took an early lead and never looked back as they proved to be too much for UMHB. Mary Hardin-Baylor falls to 2-3-0 after tonight's defeat.

The Rundown

Trinity controlled the ball for much of the game and set the tempo early. The Tigers backline played tremendously well as they only allowed one shot throughout the entire first half. In the 23rd minute of the match, Fraser Burns (Darly, Scotland / Garnock Academy) scored the winning-goal off of an assist from Michael Meese (Williamsburg, Va. / Jamestown).

Jack Downes (Sheffield, England / Queen Ethelburas) also scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 38th minute. The Tigers managed to take nine shots during the first half. The Trinity backline also held their own on the four corner kicks from the Crusaders in the first half.

During the second half, Meese scored the third and final goal of the match in the 52nd minute off of an assist from Jack Eubank (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham Broughton). Austin Wilman (Esher, England / Charterhouse School) got his first start of the season in goal for the Tigers and recorded two saves for the shutout win.

Notable Numbers

Meese has now scored a goal in all five matches this season.

The Tigers and Crusaders both took eight corners throughout the entire match.

Trinity took 24 shots, while UMHB only took seven shots on the night.

The Tigers record their third shutout win of the season.

Trinity is riding a five match win-streak after tonight's win.

Coach Speak

"For the fifth game in a young season, our team is doing a lot of things well on both sides of the ball," said Head Coach Paul McGinlay. "Their effort and focused attention to detail stick out for me and it is sustained over 90 minutes. Again there were many individual performances that deserve recognition but I will leave that for the dressing room not the internet. I will make one exception in recognizing Brady Johnston (Northampton, England / Cinco Ranch) tonight who has had a long and difficult road to this moment, but he is where he is supposed to be. Once again, he was brilliant tonight. "

Up Next

Trinity will host Concordia (Texas) on Sunday. Kick-off at Paul McGinlay Field is set for 6:00 pm.
