Box Score SAN ANTONIO - No. 3 Trinity University Volleyball collected its third-straight three-set victory over Chapman University to conclude the 2021 Trinity National Invitational Saturday night in the Bell Center.
Saturday's nightcap was highlighted by a ferocious offensive effort on the right side as both senior rightside hitters Sara Flynn (Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) and Sarah Williammee (Denver, Colo. / East) eclipsed double-digit kills, 11 and 10 respectively. The duo also notched staggering attack percentages: Williammee at .714 and Flynn at .455 on the night.
Senior outside hitter Avery Tuggle (Cedar Creek, Texas / Cedar Creek) collected her second double-double of the 2021 campaign as the third Tiger in double-digits for kills while she led the Trinity back-row effort with 16 digs.
All three of Trinity's setters were able to execute the machine-like offensive effort Saturday night with first-year Trinity Herrera (San Antonio, Texas / Clark) narrowly edged-out her veteran counterparts senior Alexis Acevedo and junior Marisa Amarino with 17 assists to 14 and 13, respectively for the latter duo.
No. 3 Trinity Volleyball hosts Our Lady of the Lake University Tuesday as a make-up of the postponed home-opener. The Tigers and Saints square-off from Calgaard Gym at 6 p.m. CT.
All-Trinity National Invitational
Senior outside hitter Annie Rose Leggett (Austin, Texas / Westwood) was named the 2021 Trinity National Invitational Most Valuable Player Saturday night following the Trinity-Chapman match and was accompanied by senior middle blocker Emma Funk (Pass Christian, Miss. / Our Lady) in representation of the Tigers.
Leggett concluded the weekend with team-highs in kills (28), digs (32) and service aces (8) along with her third double-double this season. Funk notched 18 kills on a .500 attack rate along with a team-high eight blocks in eight of the weekend's nine sets for Trinity.
