#21 Trinity's offense Shines in 4-1 Win Over (RV) Hardin-Simmons

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - The no. 21 ranked Trinity University Women's Soccer squad squared off with (RV) Hardin-Simmons. Both teams usually sit atop the West region and HSU has won their conference championship 15 straight years. The Tigers showed up ready to play and applied immense pressure from kick-off to the end of the match.

Due to miscommunication between a defender and the goalkeeper, HSU scored an own goal in the first two minutes of the match to give Trinity a 1-0 lead. The Tigers took advantage of the early momentum and continued to create numerous scoring opportunities. Alana Wickham (Rockwall, TX / Rockwall) drew a penalty in the box during the 10th minute of the match on what seemed to be a promising attack. Cece Hendricks (Travelers Rest, SC / Saint Joseph's Catholic School) stepped up and buried the penalty kick to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead over the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons.

HSU eventually put together a strong enough attack to score a goal in the 16th minute of the match to make the score 2-1 in favor of Trinity. Immediately after coming out of halftime the Tiger offense went on the prowl. Camryn Beall (Morrison, CO / Colorado Academy) took no time putting a ball in the net off an assist from Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, MO / Kirkwood) in the 46th minute.

Madison Horner (Austin, TX / Bowie) added a goal in the 51st minute to ultimately put the match out of reach for HSU after extending the Tigers lead to 4-1. Goalkeeper Joey Finley (Albuquerque, NM / Early College Academy) collected three saves on the afternoon while the Trinity defense only allowed six total shots.

Coach Speak

"Another great team performance," said coach Spencer Valdespino. "Our girl's energy is tough to handle. It's always an exciting match against the Cowgirls and we continue to not be wrangled in by them. We ate well this weekend. Back to our little snacks during the week until our next meal on Friday."

Up Next

Trinity will take on Cal Lutheran in another non conference matchup on Sep. 10. Kick-off at Paul McGinlay field is set for 6:00 pm.
