Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Trinity University Men's Basketball improved to (12-3, 4-2 SCAC) after taking down Colorado College on the road. Despite being down by 18 points in the first half, TU cut the deficit to five points heading into half time and ultimately ended up winning 80-76.
First-year guard Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) came off the bench and scored a career-high 19 points to help lead the Maroon Tigers to victory. The first-year shot 6-of-11 from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
Junior forward Enzo Sechi (Houston, Texas / Taylor) also provided a spark off the bench with 19 points and six rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. The forward also went 3-of-5 from the three point line. Sechi was responsible for the last six points Trinity scored to close out the game.
Senior guard AJ Clark (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) tallied 13 points, 8eight rebounds and six assists to help TU win.
TU shot 24-of-55 for 43.6 percent as a team from the field. Trinity really made the most of their chances at the free throw line by shooting 25-of-30 for 83.3 percent, which was the highest percentage as a team all year.
The Rundown
Colorado College quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead before Trinity took a timeout to regroup. Coming out of the timeout,Harvey knocked down a three pointer to cut the TU deficit to 11-5 with 15:23 left in the first half.
CC worked to a 34-21 lead in large part to 3-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe. Clark knocked down a big three-pointer with 5:16 left in the first half which provided the Maroon Tigers with the spark they needed. A play later first-year guard Pierce Mathews (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) forced a steal and found Harvey for the fastbreak layup. The very next play Clark got a steal and both free throws after being fouled on a shot attempt. Matthews later went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe to make the score 38-30 CC.
Harvey knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 41-39 with 1:57 to go. Colorado College took a 46-41 lead into halftime after senior guard Jordan Lippman (Austin, Texas / Round Rock) stole a pass and just missed a half-court shot with the time winding down. The Maroon Tigers trailed by as much as 18 before cutting the deficit to just five points in the first half thanks to big defensive plays and timely shooting.
After five turnovers between both teams to start the second half, sophomore guard Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) picked up a loose ball and went coast-to-coast for the old-fashioned three point play to make the score 46-44 in favor of CC. Junior guard Griffin Levine (Dallas, Texas / Yavneh) brought Trinity within one point on a fastbreak layup. TU took its first lead of the day after Harvey intercepted a pass and knocked down both free throws after being fouled to make the score 52-51with 13:51 left in the game.
Both sides went back and forth before Sechi made a layup to put the Maroon Tigers up by three points. TU forced CC into foul trouble and entered the bonus with just over 12 minutes left in the contest. Trinity jumped out to a 61-55 lead thanks to a corner three from Lippman.
Trinity led 72-64 with 5:22 to go after the media timeout. Colorado College continued to chip away at the TU lead and came within two points before taking a timeout with 3:16 remaining. Brown was sent to the line and made both free throws to extend the TU lead to 76-72 with 3:37 left. A few moments later Colorado College tied the game at 76 apiece. Sechi made a big time bucket with 34.7 left to make the score 78-76 in favor of Trinity. Colorado missed a last second three point attempt and Trinity went up four points after Sechi made two free throws to put the game out of reach.
